Stainless steel thimbles used to reinforce an eye (a loop) formed with rope or wire. As shackles are often attached to rope, a thimble is used to prevent the rope from being deformed below its minimum bend radius (often known as the "D/d ratio"). They also protect the rope from the metal shackle and prevent chafe. The use of a thimble while forming an eye/loop provides an excellent overall protective sleeve and helps keep the correct radius for bridles, snubbers, tow lines, etc.
